This post is a kind of thought experiment.

Imagine

Imagine for a moment you lived in America and that you had participated in Reinvent America!

You went through the reinvention process, collectively decided what kind of country you wanted to live in, what the future should look like and what politicians should align to. You have elected those politicians that aligned with citizens' long-term goals and agreed to be held accountable for their results.

In other words, you collectively have reinvented the system. Politicians are required to be forward-looking, creative, aligned with citizen's goals and accountable for achieving them. There is energy in the country, it is moving forward and taking the lead in creating peace, opportunity and wellbeing for all in the world.

It is a new kind of politics - it is citizen-led.

Now imagine

Some people don't like it because it changes the power dynamics of the country.

Someone suggests that the US revert to the governance system that is in place in 2026. Meaning:

  • you don't have to receive a majority of the votes to become President
  • the President is all powerful and can override Congress with impunity
  • the electoral process is party-driven; thus binary and led by the Powerful Few
  • districts are gerrymandered - essentially politicians choose their voters
  • unlimited amounts of money can be directed towards candidates; thus favoring the rich and powerful
  • business interests and lobbyists have daily access to the corridors of power, citizens have access once every two, four or six years
  • Party messaging is divisive - mostly how bad the other side is
  • promises are made without accountability for following through.

In other words, revert back to a power and money-driven system that is clearly broken. One that does not have citizens at the center; rather has them as a group to sell to every couple of years.

Hardly government of the people, by the people, for the people.

What would your reaction be?

One more thing

Yes, I know it's more suitable for Reinvent UK, but the message is the same... unless you change the system of government, it doesn't really matter who wins. You just have to get on your knees and pray, you don't get fooled again.

So, what would you say?

So, what would you say if a reversion to the old Strongman governance system was proposed? (It would be like reinstalling Windows 95!).

Once you have experienced something far more equitable and suited for today's world, would you ever want to go back?
